As far as road races in the UK go, the Loch Ness Marathon is a splendid dichotomy.
It is most certainly a road marathon, point to point from Whitebridge to Inverness, but with the scenery and atmosphere of a trail race. The first few kilometres treat you to stunning countryside views before dropping down to run along the banks of the legendary and beautiful River Ness.
The course follows a predominantly downhill route with a few bumps to keep things interesting (a maximum elevation of 754 feet). It is the Highlands after all!
