In 1981, 182 walkers and 68 runners set off to complete the very first edition of the Seven Sisters Marathon. In the decades that have passed, with a name change and revised route, the Beachy Head Marathon has become one of the most popular and challenging trail marathons in the UK.
This race lays out its intentions at the very beginning, with the start at the foot of a 300 foot incline and totalling an elevation gain of 4323 feet over the whole distance. As tough as it is, this is a much loved race with many of the runners returning year over year to tackle the trails of the South Downs.
This race is not for the faint hearted and to complete it is a huge achievement.
